Many people experience anxiety about the prospect of growing older. However, there is nothing to fear about aging: in fact, aging is one of the greatest gifts humanity has been given. With age comes wisdom, and while that may sound like a cliché, it is completely true. Let’s go over some of the ways that aging is a good thing, and how you can find peace with the natural process of aging.
Why Aging is a Good Thing
It becomes easier to see the world clearly when you have experience under your belt. The confusion and mystery of your younger years falls away, and the truth of the world lies open before you. Your own life is less of a mystery, as well, as your many experiences inform you going forward. You’re much less likely to fall for tricks, and much more likely to excel, as you’ve learned from what’s come before.
As you get older, you get to see the development of your family. Your children and grandchildren become adults and come into their own. Your loved ones achieve their goals, getting the education they want and landing the jobs they want. You get to see the lives you helped shape take their full forms, and you gain a greater understanding of the nature of love as a result.
You’ve seen the breadth of the human experience. You understand your place in the world, and you can appreciate a truer sense of happiness than many young people. Many of your worries are behind you, as you’ve encountered and overcome all of you life’s challenges so far. It’s much easier to be at ease when you’ve finally slain your last dragon and put down your sword.
The greatest happiness you can achieve, of course, is in passing the wisdom you’ve gained on to the ones you love. It’s served you well thus far: now, give your wisdom a chance to serve your children and grandchildren well. They’ll thank you for the gift, and hopefully it will see them to their own wisdom later in life.
