In fact, doctors say that over a quarter of people who have diabetes in the US probably haven’t even been diagnosed. Even if you don’t show any symptoms of diabetes, it’s important you take an interest in your weight and get into better shape if you’re overweight.
The first thing you’re going to want to do is cut all of that sugar out of your diet. If you drink sodas, eat junk food or even eat white bread, you’re taking in way too much sugar. Flavored yogurt, pasta sauces and salad dressings can all have higher amounts of added sugars than you’d expect, too. Cut that stuff out of your diet.
Snacking day-in and day-out is a common habit among people who feel they need to lose weight. If you find yourself constantly snacking and unsure of how to curb your appetite, consider drinking decaf hot tea when you get a craving. The tea will help you feel fuller and it’s quite good for you!
Diet and Exercise
Make sure you don’t just diet. A lot of older adults can lose weight in the ways they don’t want to, by dropping pounds of muscle as well as fat. This is a very bad thing: you don’t want to be shedding pounds of muscle. Instead, make sure you’re get lots of physical activity on top of your diet. Walking, lifting free weights, going for a swim: just make sure you’re stimulating those muscles.
