Springtime is great, but allergies can put a serious damper on the season. As such, many people who might enjoy the warm weather and flowers find themselves dreading the season. If you’re struggling through with allergies, we understand. Here’s some of our tips for fighting off the worst of Spring allergies.
Fighting Spring Allergies
A straightforward way to combat allergies, of course, is to take allergy medicine. Claritin, Benadryl and the like can all be quite effective when taken correctly. Thankfully these medications are quite affordable and not too hard to take regularly during allergy season.
However, medication alone sometimes isn’t enough for some people. There are a few other ways to fight allergies, though, so don’t give up hope if medicine isn’t cutting it.
When to Go Out
Try to avoid heading outside early in the morning if you can help it. When the sun is first coming up the pollen count tends to be at its highest. Checking the weather for the pollen count is another good way to check when the best time to head outside is.
Also, note that the windiest days are the worst for allergies. The wind can carry pollen off of the trees and straight onto your clothes, into your car and into your breathing passages. That’s a surefire way to have an allergy attack!
Sheets and Clothes
When you get home from going outside, make sure you throw your pollen-covered clothes into the wash. Make sure you wash your sheets more regularly this time of year, too. The quickest way to make your home more breathable during allergy season is to keep your clothes and sheets clean and free of pollen.
Similarly, when you get in from your day, consider taking a shower right away to knock all of the pollen off yourself. That way you’re not constantly getting whiffs of the sneeze-inducing stuff while you’re just trying to relax in your own home!
