Just about anywhere can theoretically become a budget destination if you play your cards right. Of course, that means traveling in the off-peak season, booking in advance, and opting for low-cost accommodations.
However, some destinations are simply less expensive to visit, whether it’s in terms of accommodations, travel expenses, or overall.
While these destinations may stay somewhat consistent, they can also change from one year to the next. Flight prices fluctuate, currencies strengthen or weaken, and other factors affect the cost of vacationing in various regions.
Don’t worry though, we’ve done the research for you. Here are several destinations, both in the U.S. and abroad, that should give you plenty of bang for your buck in 2019.
U.S. Destination: Hot Springs, Arkansas
Want a quick and easy escape you can take without leaving the states? Hot Springs may be just the place for you.
Here, you’ll find reasonably priced lakeside cabins and vacation rentals where you can simply get away from it all. Of course, there are also the famed thermal pools where you can take a dip and relax as well.
History buffs may also enjoy seeing the Gangster Museum of America and having a cocktail at The Ohio Club.
International Destination: Dominica
Have you got your heart set on a tropical getaway? Dominica may be a bit of an off-beat choice, but trust us on this one.
With flights having dropped significantly in price since last year, the average is now just around $670. So, for starters, getting there shouldn’t break the bank. Plus, accommodations and expenses once you get there are quite affordable.
The remote island is also a nature lover’s dream. Whether you crave adventure or relaxation, you’ll easily find both here.
U.S. Destination: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Rich in history and culture, Albuquerque offers all sorts of exciting attractions, shopping, and dining.
While there are always plenty of things to do in Albuquerque, you might want to plan to visit in October. That’s when the city’s famed International Balloon Fiesta happens.
Alternatively, the 2019 National Senior Games will be held here from June 14 through the 25. If you’re looking for some fitness inspiration, you’ll certainly find it as countless seniors compete in the “Senior Olympics.”
International Destination: Iceland
If you’re looking for someplace that’s both quaint and rich in natural splendor, Iceland is a great choice. Plus, it’s relatively inexpensive to travel there, too – especially if you live on the East Coast.
Airfares have dropped, the dollar is worth more this year, and – despite the frigid sounding name – Iceland is incredibly welcoming.
