Sometimes you simply don’t have the time, energy, or ability to cook for yourself. Maintaining a healthy diet is so incredibly important though, especially in our older years. To ensure you’re getting the nutrients you need, you might want to consider a meal delivery service.
We’re not ruling out Meals on Wheels, if you qualify. However, there are also several companies that ship premade meals right to your home as well. Often, all that’s required is a microwave, though these do differ significantly from the TV dinners of old. While the costs are higher than cooking for oneself, it may be worth it on occasion.
While not specifically tailored to seniors, we’ve been incredibly happy with Freshly’s meals regardless. They offer a wide variety of foods to accommodate many different diets and it’s as low as $8.99 a meal. Plus, we’ve found the portion sizes to be just about perfect as well. Additionally, their entire facility is gluten and peanut free to avoid cross contamination. They also make it easy to skip deliveries if necessary.
Fresh N’ Lean
Another popular meal delivery service is Fresh N’ Lean. They’re a lot like Freshly, only more diet focused and a bit more expensive. They have performance protein diets, paleo (low-carb) diets, and two plant-based options as well. They also offer snacks, bulk meals, and a la carte sides as well.
Martha’s Senior Gourmet
Unlike the first two, Martha’s Senior Gourmet does not offer short-term options, however, they do offer a 5-day trial period. They also have limited delivery areas since they the service is only available in California, Arizona, Texas, and Florida.
Even more focused on dietary needs, they offer options for diabetics and those on a renal diet. They also have dairy free, vitamin K restrictive, ultra-low sodium, gluten sensitive, and high fiber diets. Additionally, they can do pureed food or customize your meals to meet other concerns.
With this service, you’ll sign up for a certain number of meals per week for four weeks at a time.
Healthy Chef Creations
This service offers meal programs, a la carte meals, as well as custom programs. In addition to breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, they also have meals and school lunches for kids, too. Plus, they also offer snacks, smoothies, salads, and fresh fruit as well. Unfortunately, they are a bit pricier than many of the other options. Their two-week, seven days a week, dinner-only plan starts at $17.99 a day, and it’s the least expensive option.
