How to Naturally Combat Hair Loss at Home

One of the downsides of aging is what it does to our hair. From graying to outright loss, keeping a healthy-looking head of hair may become challenging as time goes by. However, there are some things you can do to help prevent or stop hair loss.

Hair Loss

1. Take your vitamins.

Certain vitamins are good for your hair and scalp and can, thus, help prevent hair loss. You’ll want to make sure you’re getting plenty of Omega-3 fatty acids, as well as taking a B-Complex vitamin. It should include Biotin and B5. Additionally, you should make sure you’re taking zinc and getting plenty of iron. Meeting your daily requirements for Vitamins C and D is also important.

2. Eat a healthy diet.

Often one’s diet can at least be partially responsible for certain types of hair loss. Be sure to eat a well-balanced diet with plenty of protein.

3. Give yourself an essential oil scalp massage.

Scalp massages help promote good circulation by increasing blood flow to your hair follicles. While simply messaging your scalp daily may help with hair loss, essential oils may enhance your massage. For instance, using rosemary essential oil may even help promote hair growth. It’s been studied as a topical treatment to stimulate hair growth and it seems it’s been pretty effective, too.

Occasional hot oil treatments may also help stimulate hair growth.

4. Use gentle, sulfate-free, pH-neutral shampoos.

Sulfate-free shampoos aren’t just for people who color their hair. Using a gentle shampoo that doesn’t strip your locks of their natural oils is important to maintain healthy hair. Additionally, try not to wash your hair too frequently.

5. Apply aloe vera.

It’s not just for sunburns anymore. Apparently applying aloe vera to the scalp can also help promote hair growth. You can also try mixing a little aloe vera gel in with your shampoo.

6. Take care of your hair.

When it comes to maintaining healthy hair, there are a few key rules to follow. Don’t over-dry it with a towel, don’t brush it while wet, and avoid harsh treatments like perms. Using a silk pillowcase can also help reduce damage and breakage.

7. Consider taking supplements.

There are a few supplements that are widely believed to help combat hair loss, like palmetto, for example. It’s said to promote healthy skin and hair and block the production of DHT. (DHT is a metabolite of testosterone that can cause or exacerbate hair loss.)
